Does anyone have an opinion on where MLS is in level of play compared to other world wide leagues?
I have heard some people say it runs the gamut from mid level CHampionshop at the top to top level League One.
Some others I read said it's around the level of the Scandinavian leagues.
It'd be interesting to see where they rank compared to Japan, J League and MLS seem fairly similar although comparatively, J League is more popular in Japan than MLS is in America.
if it is on par wit the english championship (league 2) then thats good going, because that is a quality league, i can't confess to know, i have watched the odd game and they have been entertaining and looked to be a decent level of play, but thats why, as debated in a another thread, the north, central america region needs to try and get a good level champions league competition, because that will give you a better indication where your league stands, and will without a doubt make the MLS an even better league, people go on about a lack of parity and so on in other leagues, but if a team or two push on and get better quality player, or start dominating etc, that will encourage the rest of the leagues teams to catch up therefore creating a better quality league
Having watched alot of Championship football growing up (me dads a West Brom supporter) I would say that there are a few teams in the MLS that would do good mid table in the npower championship and all would do top half / fight for promotion in the npower league 1.
It is hard to tell though because the lower English leagues are very physical too.
I have watched MLS for the past 5/6 years now an i would have to say it has improved so much.
I would say that the top teams - LA, RSL, NY etc are probably mid Championship level with teams such as Nottingham Forest and Watford. The leagues are very different though, MLS is nowhere near as physical as the lower English leagues.
To the OP who do you support in the MLS and i'll try and find a team that they are 'on par with' in England.
Also in Europe the big leagues are
England, Spain, France, Germany, Italy
After these comes the middle ones
Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Russia, Scotland
In Scandinavia there a some good teams such as Rosenborg but thats really where it ends.
I am in Suburban Washington, so I am taking up DC United (first year watching MLS whole way).
I just wanted to see what outsiders thought about our league.
You think we compare with the mid tier?
I mean this is all superficial I know, because we still cannot conquer our mexican club adversaries.
Is the rest of England football really that rough n tough? (never seen it) I mean I knew that is the general style and we kinda take after it, but you make it sound like theyre playing rugby or something

Hmm well DC didn't have the greatest season last year i think it's fair to say! They are probably league 1 standard (3rd tier).
Its also not about your team having a great season. If you go to games and get involved with the fans and get more people watching it it takes the Football experience to a whole new level.
