I've been a fan of the French team since 1998. When I first saw the combo of Titi Henry and David Trezeguet, and the explosive Zidane, I knew they were the team to win.
I can't believe I forgot about them after the WC 2010. They've slid through the group stage and round of 16 without any mention. They're a powerhouse with Pogba, Benzema and Giroud. I really think they have the best shot out of any team to take the Cup home. The only other team I would say that matches their determination and record is Colombia. They really haven't shown that much weakness.
Any thoughts on Les Blues taking the cup to Paris? I'm super excited about France v Germany regardless of even if they lose. They've been the best in my book.
They might be the favorite in a plurality sense (as in not favored against the field but the team with the single best odds of all eight remaining teams). I would expect France v Colombia in the semis although I bet the oddsmakers would favor Brazil v Germany. With Mertesacker's speed being a liability they might be better off with the other striker in the lineup (Greizmann if memory serves) as opposed to Giroud. Germany has not been very good at all in their last three games...looking forward to that matchup. Germany is overrated at the moment and France is probably underrated. That said, France v Algeria would've been fun, colonial implications and all that. Plus Algeria looked better against Germany despite getting outshot like 25-8 or something...the best players on that field were Algeria F Slimani and the guy from Valencia whose name escapes me (Fergouli maybe)
There are no elite teams this year...for better or worse. Most parity ever for a WC? Subject for another thread perhaps.
I was saying to people at the start of this tourney that France would sneak this World Cup.... "laying in the long grass" as the saying goes.
I just wished I had the sense to back them at 40/1 at the time.

Hah, 40/1 is looking like a delicious freeroll now. I'd take them at 15/2 or better now, only because I don't really see them as an underdog in any conceivable game, and .5 x .5 x .5 = .125, or 7:1. In my mind they're a slight favorite against Germany....
