I wonder if it is legal to drive in other states if you are registered as an uninsured driver in SC. I think it would be, as registration and licenses are, I believe, required to be recognized by other states.
I wondered about this too; and like you, I think as long as you are legal in your home state, that is all that matters. It should be covered by the Full Faith And Credit Clause, but on the other hand, gun laws don't transfer.
It all comes down to where the vehicle is registered (that is, what state's plates are on your car). That state's insurance coverage policies would then apply.
Technically, it should be registered where you live, or where the vehicle is "principally garaged" (a DMV term)...but that is pretty nebulous and can be open to interpretation/wiggle room.
