Why is the South Carolina Pageant always held in Columbia?
If it is to represent the whole state shouldn't it move around the state to other cities some times?

It used to be held in Greenville and then in Spartanburg. The move to Columbia is a recent thing.
Columbia put in a bid for it to be held at the Township Auditorium. That venue proved to be a winner and the pageant CEO's or whatever wanted to come back the next year. And now Columbia has USC with the #1-ranked college baseball stadium in the country, state government, Fort Jackson, the State Museum, Riverbanks Zoo, Lake Murray, several smaller lakes, three rivers, quality ballet, quality stage theater, Congaree National Park, Harbison State Park, the Vista, Five Points, Devine Street, Main Street, the Columbia Museum of Art, the Center for Contemporary Art, a very impressive inventory of trees, a large insurance technology sector, a growing high-tech entrepreneurial sector, the Nickelodeon, a good and ever-expanding collection of restaurants, Soda City Farmers' Market, nice people, plenty of rolling hills and distant vistas for everyday viewing that's not to be taken for granted, and now a bunch of beauty queens for one week out of the year. And it's still only two hours from the beach and two hours from the mountains. Oh, and it's centrally located for all South Carolinians, including beauty queens for the Miss S.C. Pageant and high school athletes for state championships.

So what do all those places have to do with the pageant? I just think the whole state should have a chance to host it and let it rotate around so all communities can reap some of the benefits. Why does Columbia have to have it "every" year? Just because it's in the center of the state? Not fear.
I'm pretty sure the pagent is a "non profit" independent corporation and not owned or run by the State. It accepts bids from cities to host the event and chooses the site that makes the most sense. If another city wants to take it away from Columbia, let them match or exceed the proposal. It's really that simple.

I expect it is a "not for profit" which is a big difference but yet the let them match or exceed the offer part is correct.

It's not in Columbia "every" year. It's been in Columbia for a few years, but it's been in many cities around the state.
