Chick-fil-A in mall is closing at the end of the month, ahead of the new store opening in mid May.
I guess they still have a good amount of work to do inside if it is taking that long. They outside looks to be entirely done, down to the landscaping and the tables to sit and eat at outside. They should probably speed things up if they want to maximize how much of this school year they have left. Mid-May means they'll only have two weeks left for high schoolers to stop by and spend money. Not sure why the CFA at the mall is closing though because I think Sumter can easily support three of them; the one at the mall has lasted this long being like two blocks away from one this whole time!
I agree with you on your earlier post about the choice of location for the UPS store. I really liked where they were at by Jones Chevy so I was puzzled when they chose across the strees at the old Music Gator of all places for their move.

Yeah, the one on the mall been there for a long time, and I also agree that Sumter can support that one as well as the other two locations. They will be hiring 100 people for the new store for full and part time workers, and some of the people at the mall location will be going to the new store.
I believe the UPS store left a lot people scratching their heads on that move. Only thing I can think of is they were trying save money with the overhead.
I see in the Item this morning, that the city has six litter cameras around the city limits. They had them for about 2 months now and just recently caught their first offender. The camera shows a person throwing trash out of the passenger window, and the tag number of the car. The person went to court and had the option of a $1000 fine or 40 hours of picking up trash along the roadways. Good job to the city for doing that, it was long overdue and is a useful tool in fighting the trash problem.
The apartments at the old St Judes sound interesting, that should really change the landscape in that neighborhood. As for the other project, I just can't picture in my mind what that would look like there, that area of town needs a lot of TLC.

Yeah.. in many places..the westies...(West Oakland, West Bartlette and West Liberty) would be sought after areas. Their proximity to downtown and to Bultman/Broad Streets not to mention McCrays Mill along with the housing stock would make it ripe for revival. Unfortunately, Sumter doesnt have that type of in migration and what it does have for people who could afford to spend $50-100k on a house in this area and another 50k to $100k or whatever to fix it up.. You may as well buy in a new development in the far west or NW side.
I did see that there are several infill newer homes in that area so it may be creeping slowly south from Hampton Park into the historic westside!
I just noticed a lot of work being done to the building and lot that the old Auntie Mae’s occupied on Pinewood Rd near McCrays Mill Rd. Looks like the porch and awnings have been demolished going back to the original old structure. Also looks like the parking lot is being re-graded. Anyone heard the plans here? With all the new options, that’s becoming a big intersection. Chick fil A, McDonalds, Sonic, Starbucks, Leo’s, Arby’s, Taco Bell and possibly this new place.
That's great news, and it's about time this area get a share of all the businesses moving to this state. That's a step in the right direction but, we need many more jobs to come to Sumter County. Kudos to the mayor and the entire team who got this done, please don't stop there.

I haven't heard anything on that one, I'll post it if I hear something in the coming days.
