I am noticing several reports where Governor Nikki Haley is being selected by President-elect Donald Trump to be the United States' ambassador to the United Nations. She would have to be confirmed for the position by the United States Senate.
How would Haley's appointment affect South Carolina? South Carolina' order of succession would elevate Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster elevate to governor, and elevate state Senator Hugh Leatherman, President pro tempore of the South Carolina Senate, to lieutenant governor.
South Carolina's next gubernatorial election is in 2018.
So im wondering what does that mean for the future of sc....???? She has been a good governer and i hate for someone with old ideas to step in her place and change everything thats good
Hate to see her go. While the GDP per capita still sucks, she's done a lot for jobs, and she hasn't been afraid to stand up for what's right.
Plenty of people still won't give her proper credit because of the flag nonsense, but she's done what she could do. Will be interesting to see who steps up next. Hopefully it won't be another politician wanting to take us backwards.
I would like to think South Carolina is better now than it was six years ago attracting industry and creating a climate to create jobs. If the state can continue moving forward in a pro-business direction, it will be okay.
I could see McMaster seeking election to a full term in office. I do not see Leatherman remaining in office after his two years as lieutenant governor is up.
The 2018 election, which I need to read more about, will be a pivotal year. Both the governor and lieutenant governor candidates will run on the same ticket, and all seats in the South Carolina House of Representatives will be up for election.

I think Republicans can do way better than McMaster in 2018. Hopefully, he doesn't make it out of the GOP Primary.
Leatherman can actually avoid becoming Lt. Gov. by resigning as President pro tempore of the Senate. I think that is how we ended up with Yancy McGill, a Democrat, as Lt. Gov. in 2014 instead of John Courson.
I heard McGill, a liberal Democrat, has announced he is running for governor as a Republican. He would be easily defeated in a Republican Party primary.
This is interesting. Because previously she did not care for Trump and she had endorsed Bush then Rubio. I guess things may have changed. But I thought she had said she was not pursuing higher office. Guess she changed her mind.

UN Ambassador is a pretty big resume builder.
