?? According to "State Minimum Teacher Salary Schedule for FY 2018 - 2019," the minimum for for a new teacher (0 years experience) with just a bachelor's degree is $32,000. Though I don't know how salaries vary by district etc.

I think it’s a myth that people look down at teachers.

I think if you polled graduates they would say the bad teachers far outweigh the good teachers.

That’s not against the profession itself, just individuals within the profession.

To all the people that argue that teaching is only a 7 month a year job - what jobs are available to supplement that income that only need you to work June - early August and 2 weeks in December? Teachers do get a long summer break and quite a bit of time off around the end of the year but there aren't many good paying jobs available only during that break to supplement the income.

I think people tend to somewhat look down on teaching as a profession ("those who can, do; those who can't, teach") but either hold teachers themselves in high regard or pity them for having to do so much with so little (or even both). It's weird.

I’ve always heard the “if you can’t do, teach” more used in reference to college professors.

Some might say not a bad salary for a 7 month job, Just saying.
Maybe you should go back and smack your math teacher. While it may be a 180 day school year, it's normally only 5 days a week and not the 7 you used in your math.

My ex worked mid August through early June. Teachers are there a week after and at least a week before. Thus narrowing your time off to more like 7-8 weeks in the calendar year. She arrived at least an hour before the kids in the morning and stayed for at least an hour after they left. She spent nights and weekends grading papers and creating lesson plans.

So, maybe you completely missed the mark on that one. And where the heck did you find that $46,480 number?

Not to haggle but 180 school days at 5 days per week (Mon to Fri) is 36 weeks. Add in a week before and a week after (as you said) and we are at 38 weeks. That leaves 14 weeks per year "not at work".
