Hello folks! Jim here from central Ohio. I'm considering relocating to the coastal area sometime in the next few years. I'm currently 56 but by that time I'll be 58-59, semi-retired and will still need to work.
My wife is a nurse so I'm not worried about her finding work but I'm a programmer and I know there is not a lot of that down there unless I can work from home, which may be a possiblity in the future.
My question for you us what type of work is there in the area OTHER THAN tourism? Its Myrtle Beach, I get it but I worked for Marriott years ago and have no desire for that now.
Is there any manufacturing? Warehouse distribution? Logistics (UPS, Amazon, USPS, etc). Thanks in advance and please let me know.

I know Columbia has all of that, UPS is at the Airport and has a distribution warehouse and a logistics hub and has their own runway and all (as does FedEx); and USPS is big here as it’s the state capital, and Amazon is in Cayce on 12th street extension right next to Nephron Pharmaceuticals. You can see it when you drive by on I-26 headed towards Charleston. People are gonna guide you towards Charleston and Greenville, which are good places too, but don’t rule out Columbia.
In addition to Charleston, if you're set on the coast but are open to other states you might also look at the software scene in Wilmington NC and Savannah GA.
