I am a student currenlty living in Toledo, Ohio getting ready to do student teaching. I want to move to North or South Carolina that is near the coast. I don't want to be right in the center of a major city with the hustle, but I don't want to be in the boonies somewhere either. I here it is MUCH easier to get teaching jobs there and am ready for a change. I want to live in a good safe, clean area, near a nice suburban school district. I don't know where to call home, or the areas at all. Can you please let me know some areas that you know of I should consider? I am taking a road trip in June to check them out!! Thanks
In SC, I'd recommend Charleston, or surrounding areas. There will be teaching vacancies just about anywhere, but Charleston is bigger than Myrtle Beach, and doesn't have all of the touristy traps.
You might consider Wilmington, NC as well. I don't know too much about it, but I'd put it in a similar catagory with Charleston.
Here are the websites for Horry & Georgetown County school districts. It seems they are always looking for teachers. Both have good schools in the district (and some so-so schools) and both counties are right along the beach!
SC I would look at Horry county,& Georgetown, down to Mt Pleasant Charleston. Come down and take a drive, you can do it in a few hours! See which area speaks to you! And balance that against where you can get a job!
I've lived in MB for 25 years and it is a great place to live & work. We have Blue Ribbon schools here and there are ways around all the tourists.
