Hey, y’all. My husband will be working close to Orangeburg off I-26. We’re looking for a small town between there and Charleston for relocation. My daughter will be transferring with her job, so employment isn’t really an issue. My grandson is in kindergarten and everyone else is well out of school. We’re small town people from TN originally, but are fine with driving a bit for big box stores. Good internet a must. We will probably be renting at first, if that makes a difference. Thanks.
Saint George isn’t right off I-26. It’s about 15 minutes west of it. It’s a nice little town. It’s the county seat of Dorchester County after all.

I'd say Holly Hill, Santee, Ridgeville, and St. George all have something to offer. I feel Holly Hill and Santee have the most little shops and places to eat, gas stations, etc. Most rural towns in this part of SC are going to be just that, rural, not a lot happening, and people typically go to Summerville for shopping.
Also, check out Vance, SC, where there's some beautiful homes that hit the market from time to time. Vance is between Holly Hill and Santee, it's 5 minutes to Lake Marion and 5 minutes to I-95.
At one time I might have said Holly Hill over Saint George. I think Saint George has more going for it than Holly Hill now, though, not only in a more attractive little downtown IMO, but from being pretty much adjacent to I-95. It has more eating options and about 700 or so more people than Holly Hill. I think it’s a pretty healthy little town.

While I know you asked for towns between Orangeburg and Charleston, quite a few folks live in the Columbia area (Lexington to be precise) and commute to Orangeburg. That said, were I choosing Charleston over Columbia as a place to live, I would choose Charleston.

True but Holly Hill has a lot of potential being located near the I-95/I-26 junction with direct interstate access to two of the, possibly the top two, busiest ports in the Southeast.
