I thought that moving from Charlotte to Fort Mill would reduce my auto insurance, but instead my rates increased! Is it just my company, which admitted they don't underwrite for the general public in SC (only for companies that contract for benefits programs). Is it worth my time to shop around? I just would have thought it would go down when I left the busy metro area.

auto insurance is just higher in SC. I moved from SC to NC, and it dropped a very significant amount.

Bummer. Property tax on cars is more here, too, isn't it? Well, at least my property tax, sales tax and gas tax rates are lower.

I dont know how it can be higher than NY when you dont have to deal with the snowy roads, etc. that NY has. Everyone has their own opinion I guess.

The funny thing is, that I'm moving to SC to escape the high costs of almost everything in NJ. I was recently given a car insurance quote for the same three vehicles in SC, although one is considered an historic car; that I have now in NJ. We pay almost $2600 for full coverage. The quote from SC was $1100. This is a huge savings. Our property tax in NJ, is around $5,000 for a ranch on 1/2 acre. In SC, a brand new construction on 1/4 acre will be just under $1,000. South Carolina here I come!
