The two largest universities is the main branch of the University of South Carolina in Columbia which has an enrollment of 27,000, then Clemson is next with 17,000 students. Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston and Furman University have enrollments between 8-10,000 students. All other colleges in South Carolina are between the 3-6,000 range.

Furman is actually under 3,000 for enrollment, as is Wofford and many of the other smaller colleges around the state.

Yea, my bad, not sure why put Furman in the 8-10,000 range. Other schools like Francis Marion, USC-Upstate and Lander have enrollments around 4-5,000.

According to this site (South Carolina (SC): Colleges and Universities Overview), (and I think these are numbers for the '06-07 year), the top five colleges in SC, in terms of enrollment, are:

1) USC-Columbia: Total enrollment: 27,065, with 18,362 of those being undergrad.
2) Clemson: 17,165 total, 14,096 undergrad.
3) College of Charleston: 11,332, 9,878 undergrad.
4) Coastal Carolina: 7,613 total, 6,397 undergrad.

As far as "big universities" go Carolina, and Clemson would be it. All other schools are local or regional institutions at best.

Well, the op asked about "Universities" rather than "colleges", so I'm assuming we're looking for 4-year schools here...

But yeah. Greenville Tech has 15k, Trident Tech has 12k, Midlands Tech has 11k, etc...

The 4 year universities, however, are as ranked in the source I provided.
