Yes, his son Johnny took over for him a few years ago! My family is thinking of moving back there because there is no traffic and dirt cheap houses. You can get a 4br house with 4-5 acres for $80-90K.
Johnny Roche and his wife were lovely people; I think they had 3 children, who must be grown by now. Pity about the mill closing. Hope Whitmire gets another industry to come in. But you sure could get a great deal on a house there now, that's for sure!
Clinton is a city on the move. There have been several new restaurants opening up in the past few months and Presbyterian College is opening a new Pharmacy school. In this economy I would say there is a lot going on in Clinton,SC. The downtown has been revitalized and more plans are in the making to improve the overall quality of life while at the same time keeping the small town southern charm.
What about Clemson, Walhalla, and most of the northwestern towns? Are they small and quaint? My family wants to move to a small town in South carolina with alot of wilderness and privacy. Are there any places like that left there? It seems to me that alot of people are wanting to move there.
Consider these towns... Walhalla, Seneca, Westminster, Pendleton, Dacusville, Pumpkintown (not really much "town," but definitely rural beauty and privacy), Slater-Marietta (less "quaint," but definitely some wilderness nearby), Donalds, Calhoun Falls (hunting and fishing wilderness).
There is a walking town drunk whose name is Jerry, SERIOUSLY!
I do rather resent this as Jerry is also mentally challenged. I am not sure about the drunk thing at all. Furthermore I wouldn't blame the guy, I grew up there, I get a sick feeling in my stomach every single time I have to go back there. Two days ago to be precise. There isn't much to do there anymore (if there ever was), but drink like it was your last day and pray to God it was.
Bad memories and very sad watching my hometown go down the tubes.
