ok, here is some information I need; we are planning on a trip to the Black Hills and Mt Rushmore next spring. On hubby's bucket list is seeing the 4 stoned Presidents; well not stoned but in stone. He also wants to visit a casino that has off track betting or a sports book. I know the So. Dekota casinos do not have off track betting, but it is available in No. Dekota and I think Wy. We need to know how far it would be from say a ND or Wy casino to the Black Hills. It looks to us, WY is much closer.
There is Deadwood which has live tables and slot machines. Just recently they added roulette and craps. Deadwood is 40 miles away from Mount Rushmore. No off track betting.
Wyoming would be a far better choice and offers more scenery that is pleasing to the eye.

Thanks, I know how much hubby really wants to do this trip and he usually gives me my way which is cruising.I just hope we can work this out.
...How important is off track betting, can't you do that just about anywhere? You won't find it in South Dakota and off hand the closest place I can think of that has it would be Gillette WY 2 1/2 hours out of your way in one of the ugliest towns in BFE Wyoming. (Although I suppose you could swing by Devils Tower on the way for some alien action) My advice? Enjoy Mount Rushmore and Custer National Park, enjoy the absolutely beautiful town of Deadwood and all the gambling it has to offer and skip the off track betting.
If you absolutely must throw money away on horses do a massive road trip through Wyoming perhaps through Sheridan (has OTB) to Yellowstone or something.
The timeout is a dive. At one time it was a somewhat rough and tumble biker bar. Anymore, not sure what it is.
April and May come to Fort Pierre and spend a Saturday losing money at horse races.
I have to smile at your comment about losing money: here is how heavy we bet: About a year or so ago, internet betting became legal in AR because we have Oakpark track. Anyway, hubby and I invested a huge $50. We bet races like the AR derby, the triple crown, maybe a few horses on breeders cup day. Right now, in our bank account we still have $44.70. You can see we really do not throw away a lot of money. But we do enjoy betting, have since we were married 57 years ago and our daughter and her hubby also enjoy it. They will be going with us. They would love to be able to bet and still do a little other gambling. Hubby number 1 wanta do on his bucket list is Mt Rushmore. Now, you might be able to understand why we want to combine the trip.
Thanks for all your help, if you think of anything more, let me know. Right now we are considering a May trip, (before we are afraid it will be too cold). We will probably stay in Deadwood or near, do the Mt Rushmore thing and give a few bucks to one of the casinos. We figure if we are there on a weekend when on of the three triple crown races are happening we can bet on line: kids will have thier computers with them. Then we can find a sports bar that has the race on.
Cold??? It is January 10, 2018 today. Sunday was 58 degrees and Monday was 59. Today a little more chilly, middle 40's. As usual we should still see several days in the 60's before Spring. That is not to say we won't see some cold days before then either.

In Sioux Falls we're supposed to be 43 degrees again today. Love a January thaw. Saturday's projected high is -1 and by then we're supposed have gotten 4"+ of snow. South Dakota, the land of infinite variety.
