For me it was that he proved the earth wasn't the center of the universe as everyone always believed at the time by just observing Jupiters moons .

yea, from a scientific and history aspect, that is definately true.

however, I still stand by the better funnier part of about his finger... and that is something that I didn't know

He was also the first to observe Uranus... 170 years before Herschel. Though, he didn't recognize the importance of what he was viewing. It is merely noted as another star on one of his charts.
