Yep it's another one of those threads & I'm sure if I dig back I can find what I'm looking for but this works to. I considering a relocation to Spokane & am wondering how conservative it is. By the info such as election results it seems to be some what moderate with a slight republican majority. Now for one I come from eastern MT/ ND I'm not a Republican or a Dem but I useually vote Dem & non religious. Now I don't expect Spokane to be Seattle, Belingham, Portland or the Bay Area & I'm going to guess most conservatives are more like libertarian conservative rather than Bible Belt southern conservatives. How does Spokane compare to Missoula or possibly Bend OR. Any thoughts

The Women's March in January expected about 700 marchers.
About 8000 showed up from here and surrounding areas.

I don't think it's quite as conservative as some think it is or maybe it used to be.

I have posted this before, but there is a danger of defining Eastern Washington as a conservative bastion. Yes, most counties vote conservative in Eastern Washington. That is a given. But there are plenty of votes in every election that lean liberal. We can see it by looking at the raw numbers. I guess my point here is that not everyone in Eastern WA votes conservative. Far from the truth. But from a political scorecard, it is the truth.

IMO Spokane is more the "leave me alone, get off my property, lower my damn taxes, I hate that Western WA has all the votes" conservative, instead of the "where do you go to church? let's go worship Jesus" you find in other locations.

Yes this is generally what I figured I am going to guess most of the Dem vote is from the younger residents, university students & transplats from West WA, OR, CA.

What attributes, in your mind, makes a city "conservative"? I've lived in quite a few places and Spokane, in my experience, is one of the least politics is my identity places I've lived. Most people here don't run their every thought through their own political spectrum so they can achieve that smarmy compulsory collectivism that the left and right demand right now.

Don't wear it on your sleeve, and through karma or good vibes or whatever that's what you'll find here. But, if your every move and thought is politically oriented then you'll probably bump heads.

You like the outdoors? You like good restaurants and craft beer? Do you like large gatherings of people where a city comes together and enjoys shared experiences? (First Night Spokane, Bloomsday, Hoopfest, Pig out in the Park, Chinese Lantern Festival and on and on and on) then you'll be fine here, as long as your sole judgment for people is not just which color of tie they root for this place is amazing.

I think that spokane is fairly conservative in the typical PNW way, which is basically live and let live. But keep in mind that state laws are being passed by the "progressives" of Seattle so you will be living under some degree of socialist law.

On the news last night, Seattle landlords may no longer reject tenants for having a criminal record. What could possibly go wrong with that scenario? As far as I can tell, it is just Seattle but if the people of Seattle really like that idea, they could vote it into state law.

Yep. Other social factors seem less important as well imo.
