I was reading about this truly bizarre story of the Yankess mascot last week. Apparently the San Diego Chicken put a curse on Lou Pinella which almost resulted in a fight between Lou and the Chicken. Steinbrenner held a press conference saying mascots had no place in baseball just two weeks before a contract for the Yankees to have a mascot was to start. It didn't help that Dandy had a moustache like a Yankees player at the time who died in a plane crash shortly after his debut. As a result of all this Dandy wasn't allowed to leave the upper deck, and the whole concept really died even before it got off the ground. After the three year contract was up the Yankees wanted to renew contract, but the owners of the costume and IP refused due to the poor treatment and support they'd gotten. Nowadays Steinbrenner apparently denies the Yankees ever had a mascot.
Like I said really odd story, and you've got to see a picture of what this thing looked like. I think folks everywhere should demand it be brought back just for the wierdness that surrounded it the first time.
