Phil....
2nds- 7
3rds- 7
Tiger....
2nds- 6
3rds- 3
Incidentally, here's Jack's....
2nd's- 19 (7 of these were in the British Open)
3rd's- 8
So between Tiger and Phil they have 41 finishes in the top 3
Jack alone has 45

The thing about the 2nd and 3rd stats between Mickelson and Woods is that Mickelson has had a longer career by ~4 years (not a lot ... but its still around 16 more majors opportunity wise). And while those numbers tilt PM's way, the one missing aspect is 1's. Which matter the most - and Woods dominates 14-4.
Jack is no doubt the 'greatest golfer' statistically/accomplishments wise (and the 18 majors is the biggie). But its hard to compare him with active golfers when they are still trying to add to their numbers. Using active golfers, Tiger dominates with 14 majors and 72 wins. In fact, his major wins is better than Mickelson + Singh + Els + Harrington.
All that said - I think Phil has a better chance of getting his 5th than Tiger is at getting his 15th. They all have bad golf days.. but Woods just seems lost when things go bad.
