I've been thinking about it for some time, and from what I've thought of so far, behind soccer and basketball, tennis is truly the 3rd most global sport where people from around the world can enjoy. All of the majors are in different countries, as opposed to golf were three of the majors are in the United States, and all of the top players in both the women and men's game are from different countries. It truly is a global melting pot.

Also, I feel like tennis is progressing past the notion that it's a "rich person sport".

Do you all agree or disagree with my assessment of tennis in today's day-and-age?

India, West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, England, Australia, New Zealand. Sounds global to me, not dominant but still globally loved.

What does "most global" mean? Most popular across the entire planet? Then you also get into participation vs. spectators...or both.

I think most lists talk about the most "viewed" events.. I believe those include soccer/football championships, cricket championships, FIA F1, Superbowls, Olympics, etc.

If you talk about general participation as well as fans - soccer/football is still the overall #1... I think when you get beyond that, its up for some debate. I would have to say cricket and basketball for a tie at 2nd. Simply because they are the most popular sports in the two most populous countries (China and India)... which makes up for about 40% of the worlds population.

That said, we go back to the subject of "most global". Again, what does that mean? If you are looking for coverage across the entire world (how popular is cricket in the America's?), then yea, tennis may be up there... but I'd also say other sports like Ping pong, volleyball, golf, etc. may still be more popular in terms of coverage.
