ESPN is the TMZ of sports. Awful! It's as though each of their broadcasters has been assigned a team or player that they must tout at all costs. Gossip news and athlete worship for the most rabid of all sport fans.

The top 11 links for todays sporting events.

6 about basketball

1 on merchandise
1 on crime

NHL, NFL, soccer??? May not be headliners but still a bit more than offered.

I was just talking about this the other day.

I remember as recently as 2005 when Sportscenter still used to be a "highlights" show. It may take a while, but you got most of the highlights from that previous night on the hour long sports center. Now it's become TMZ-esque.

"Now let's go to Robert Flores in Miami to see what color socks LeBron James put on this morning, and what he's eating for breakfast."

What really drives me crazy and what ultimately drove me away is that they only cater to their specific teams/players (Brett Favre, LeBron James, New York Yankees, Miami Heat, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Yasiel Puig, New England Patriots, Tom Brady) that even though Sportscenter has literally a 14 hour block from like 1 AM to 3 PM in the afternoon, those teams/players will be mentioned for about 13 hours & 15 minutes of the 14 total hours. 40 minutes will be commercials and only 5 minutes for actual highlights.

Show me the damn highlights, I can care less about the other crap they pull. That's why I've migrated over to Fox Sports 1 now, so much more better.

NBCSN used to have a pretty good highlight package called "The 'Lights" which ran for about 8 months between August 2012 - April 2013. Was cut into three, 20 minute blocks, so it was ALL substance, no fluff, exactly what I wanted, but seemed to go off the air for reasons unknown. The final score on FSN was a pretty good watch too. I like Fox Sports Live, but I think the Final Score was better. NBCSN is the darkhorse in the sports market because they have so much potential. If they can get a show like "the Lights" was, or a show like the Final Score (which was 30 minutes), and put them on repeat before Dan Patrick in the mornings, I think It'd be a pretty big hit.

So they show this, but can't find any way to give us any rugby internationals/Heineken Cup/Super 14. Awesome.

At least College Hockey finals will be on ESPN at 7:30 EST, featuring Union vs. Minnesota.

I wonder if this would be subjugated to the deuce if Union wasn't a NYC area school.

Why would any of that be on ESPN U ?

I watched USA vs Uruguay on One World Sport the other day for Intl Rugby, least it was that or BEIN. BEIN is quite disappointing when it comes to Rugby, they used to show a LOT more than they do now.

I can't get into FS1 besides old Speed shows (RaceHub, Monster Jam, Arenacross and Supercross) and UFC. Mainly because of the on ice joke segments I've seen on intermissions during Coyote games on Fox Sports Arizona. I'm sorry, I don't like it at all.
