My daughter is into competitive swimming. I was wondering if anyone from the Cincinnati or Louisville areas had the opportunity to see this lady train back in the late 1970's? She trained in both Louisville and Cincinnati. Absolutely amazing. I wonder what she did differently to become so good? Probably still the best at the butterfly there ever was. No goggles, old style suit, no kick for first 15 meters back in those days. Incredible.
I highly respect swimmers now that I've taught myself to lap swim...I run, play a variety of individual sports, bike, etc, and find swimming a challenge - enjoyable hobby. Look forward to watching the events in the Olympics this summer.......

I remember when Susie O'Neill broke this world record, at the 2000 Australian Olympic trials.
That record had stood since 1981, the longest standing record in swimming at the time!
Had never seen Meagher's swim before, something out of this world for that time.
Certainly Meagher, and Egerszegi in the 200 backstroke are standouts in their particular events.
Ironically Susie did not win the gold at the Olympics later that year, but won the 200 free instead.
