Even Gulfstream Park the local thoroughbred track has had a very tough few years since the new facility was opened. This may be the only casino with slot machines that loses money. With a racing fan unfriendly facility where there are few places to enjoy the warm Florida sun the betting handle has declined. Hialeah Park what was once the crown jewel of Florida Thoroughbred racing is slated for the wrecking ball. A sad day for Miami racing.

Default New Stadium for the Marlins!

After many years of battling they (the politicians) finally approved a new stadium for the Marlins. Without voter approval...so it'll for sure end up being a big controversial - he said, she said, finger pointing nightmare. It's going to be in the same location as the Orange Bowl. (down in the pit of Miami, with no parking) Maybe that will help! Let's see....10 billion gazillion dollars later....maybe they'll start winning, and the fans will come back! South Floridians like Winners! It's a rare fan that sticks with their "favorite" team thru thick and thin. Especially in S FL, since most fans are transplants from other States, or Countries! What did the Dolphins win "one" game! Pretty depressing. With one of the highest Foreclosure rates in the country. Fans can't afford to go to the games! They're losing their houses left and right. If you want a good deal on Real Estate - come on down!

We can't take much depression down here. We have enough to worry about.... Hurricanes, Ridiculous property taxes, Exorbitant Home Prices, High Unemployment, Everyone who can - fleeing to neighboring states, Huge Property Price Drops, Low Wages, and last but not least...... Losing Sports Teams! Thank God I'm a Packer Backer! ....... but it is 79 degrees, clear blue skies, with a slight ocean breeze today.........

Would it be better if the Marlins just left? Because they're sure as hell not going to play it into what is basically the Metrodome minus the cover and in a sweltering hell of a place to watch a baseball game outdoors? I'm glad they got the stadium and all, but at what cost? And yes, who's going to the games with that economy in the toilet?

The Marlins are proof that winning championships alone does nothing to build an enduring fanbase.

lol, just came home from the heat / mavs game. that team is pathetic, haha. as a german guy i had to see dirk play the arena was pretty much empty and there were a lot of mavs fans around. here's (http://aycu01.webshots.com/image/45240/2006076429760014063_rs.jpg - broken link) the only reason to go to a heat game, lol.

anyway, on to more important news! the panthers won their 7th game in a row! wtf is going on? have they decided they wanna make the playoffs this year or something? lol. hope they can keep it up. next saturday i'll be at the game against tampa with a bunch of friends. Whoever said there's no hockey fans in Florida is dead wrong: Let's go panthers! \o/

the fans are the problem, if they don't show, the team has no money to build a competetive team.i think the weather is another factor maybe it's to hot for people to be interested in sports.
