Amongst Europeans there is an idea that American Sports are basically only played in the United States.
"American" defined as Basketball, Baseball and Gridiron Football.
However, this shows (notably Northern) Europeans ignorance of the world.
Baseball is one of the most popular sport in Cuba, The Dominican Republic, Dominica, Aruba, Barbados, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, Columbia, Mexico and Japan.
Basketball is the second most popular sport in the world and very popular in Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Argentina, China, and the United States.
Only Gridiron Football would the United States be the majority of the market.

I'd have to question with basketball. Basketball is not really "America only". That's sport is played worldwide and even there is a league in Europe called the Euroleague which is a professional basketball league in Europe. There's even PBA, Professional Basketball Association, which is played in Australia.

Baseball, on the other hand, isn't played so much in Europe. Baseball players internationally are mostly found in Asia, usually Japan, south America, and Latin America, especially Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic.

American football I would generally agree. American football is generally only played in America but I don't know why the NFL is expanding international games in England but I don't have a problem if they put international games in Toronto.

Canadian football, while also gridiron football, is not quite the same as American football. That is only played in Canada. One difference is, between the CFL and NFL, the fields are longer. The NFL has a TWO minute warning, while Arena football has a ONE minute warning, while the CFL has a THREE minute warning, with college and high school football with none.

In American football, penalty flags are yellow and challenge flags, (NFL only as I don't know if Arena football has challenge flags), are red. In the CFL it's the opposite. Flags are red while challenge flags are yellow.

Canadian Football and American football are not the same. They are two different sports.

So? in international Basketball you can't call a timeout on a live ball, and there are 10 minute Quarters, and the Three point line is further in, but it is still Basketball, it is not a different sport than NBA basketball.
and my whole point is when a European says "American sports are not popular outside of America" what they really are saying is "American Sports are not popular here"

In basketball, technical fouls I believe they are called either unsportsmanlike fouls. But at least, football (Gridiron football, not soccer as soccer is very popular worldwide) is not very popular outside of North America.

Your ignorance about what Europeans know about where these sports are played is appalling. Basketball is played almost everywhere. In Germany for example sport is a mandatory school subject, and basically all students have played basketball for some while. There are about 2,000 basketball clubs in Germany with about 200,000 players. And compared to many other European countries Germany is in no way a basketball stronghold.

American football is not very common in Germany, but even here we have 700 clubs in 7 leagues and about 33,000 players.

As far as I know baseball is literally not played in Germany, and the sport is considered typically American. But at least I know that baseball is also played in Cuba and Japan. And I'm absolutely not interested in any ball sports.

Euroleague isn't really a professional basketball league. That's a competition where the best european club play against each other. That's like an european cup for the best club.

Many european nation have a basketball professionnal championships like France, Lithuania, Greece, Spain and many others.
