Just on this first page alone there are no less than 4 threads dedicated to bashing sportscasters in one form or another:

Worst announcers in sports

Who's more annoying Buck or Berman

Who's worse Kornheiser or Gruden

Most annoying announcers past or present

So why all the hate all the time about sportscasters?

Are there any that are never blasted?

With so many threads it would seem that almost ever sportscaster must have been mentioned by someone at sometime.

Or are there a few that stand out and are above the fray?

these days i like troy aikman and chris collinsworth. both were players that understand the game well, and keep up on current players. they also are capable color commentators.

because it's not good enough to hate just on the players and coaches, we must also find fault with the people sitting in the broadcast booth describing the players we hate. Personally, I think most of the cameramen, sound technicians and blimp pilots are doing horrible jobs too

Did you see the camera work in that last S'hawks game?! I mean it was ridiculous! haha

The reason for the hate, love, or whatever, is we have to listen to these people for hours whist watching games we enjoy. You are going to get scrutinized as much, or more, than the players. You show bias and people are going to notice. Everything they say is being listened to and does carry weight. Most of the folks do a good job. You enjoy the game and move on. The bad ones grate on the nerves and makes games not enjoyable. That's bad. Sport is meant to be fun, enjoyable, period.

I agree with you here. I actually really enjoy the Michaels/Collinsworth combo on SNF.

MLB: I enjoyed John Smoltz throughout the World Series. I am neutral on Joe Buck, and don't hate him quite like most people seem to.

NFL: I like the Al Michaels/Chris Collinsworth combo.

NHL: I live in an area that gets CBC. I really like Bob Cole, there is just something classic about his delivery. I also think Jim Hughson does a good job.

Jim Hughson, Paul Romanuk, Mike Lange and Bob Cole for hockey.

Dan Shulman, Dave Van Horne and natch, Vin Scully for baseball.

Chuck Swirsky and Matt Devlin for basketball. Marv Albert's ok too.

Don't watch football enough to form an opinion.

Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth
Dick Stockton
Troy Aikman (I do happen to like Joe Buck and I know I'm in the minority)
Kenny Albert
Sam Rosen

I thought Daryl Johnston does an outstanding job on color.

I miss Pat Summerall and John Madden. You knew it was a big game when those two were calling it.

3 of those 4 threads are started by the same person. He must have a big problem with announcers.
