Do the NFL, MLB, and/or NBA have similar policies? Of course, regarding the NFL, some salaries have the Pro Bowl incentive built into them. If a player is selected and fit to play but doesn't want to risk a fluke injury, I wonder if it affects his salary incentive clause.
Recall vaguely back-in-the day some MLBers saying that they'd rather have the day off than play in the All Star game. They may have been guys who were having pretty good seasons but not picked, and so they were merely rationalizing. Can't remember the specific details.

I don't know if the NFL has such a rule. However, with the lack of effort mustered by the players in the Pro Bowl, I wish they would just cancel it. It's embarrassing to watch. Name the players that made it and have a banquet where they can strut across a stage. I actually don't blame the players. It's a violent game when played right so why risk a career injury with so little to be gained.
If a player chooses to not play, to me that's his right. If a league penalty is already in place prior to this, he and his team are aware of it so it's their choice. I have no problem with it if all sides are informed.
