We were looking at homes for sale online. Since we currently living out of state and are not familiar with the area, is the Springlawn Park neighborhood area in a safe part of Springfield? We are a retired married couple; Christians and conservatives; not hunters or drinkers; loved the 3rd of July celebration at the Branson Landing; and love to go to SDC during their Christmas festival when we can. Like your large mall ( it's larger than our mall where we live now, but smaller than the Galleria in Houston where I grew up). Not too far from KC or St. Louis for theater or museums without having to live there and suffer through their snowy winters. We are thoroughly acquainted with heat, insects, snakes, and spiders. We love the mountains and forests in your area. We know there can be some icy and snowy days usually in Jan. or Feb., but can plan ahead for such circumstances. Love your variety of restaurants. HuHot is one of our favorites. Any assistance you can give us will be greatly appreciated.

Springlawn Park is not in Springfield at all, but perhaps two mile north in northern Greene County. It is a very pleasant area, rather off the beaten track, and strongly rural/residential in character.

Pluses: Prices should be lower house for house than in other areas in the county. Traffic problems on major roads are minimal. Quiet.

Minuses: Resale directly north of Springfield is slower than almost any other area in the county. There are many fine properties, but the location is not terribly attractive to families with children. Rather a long way to most shopping and all medical. A Wal-Mart Supercenter is quite close on North Glenstone, along with quite a few fast food places. Not too far away at Mo. 13 (Kansas) and I-44 is a Wal-Mart Supercenter, Lowes, groceries, Big-Lots, some fast food. For anything else you have to take the expressways all the way around to the south side of town. That sounds worse than it is - I do it every day.

It is an extremely quiet/safe area, and you can get a lot of home for the money compared to other areas around Springfield. It's just not the "hot" area of town now. I have a friend who lives in an older neighborhood nearby and he really likes it. Not much traffic either.
