Construction was doing well. 17 construction companies went bankrupt last year in St. George. They are still building, but no one is buying. Big buildings they are in the process of building are sitting empty. The housing boom here has gone bust. It is over inflated prices, no jobs that pay well. The average wage is about $8 to 10 if you are lucky. Most sit near $7. A few if you are extremely lucky will get as high as $15. Good news is, there will always be need for A/C in this area. Bad news is, there are lots of people here with that same idea. But if you can afford the house prices, and don't need the good paying jobs, this is a fantastic place to live. Services like good internet are a joke. We moved here and for the first year, (we are in our second year) opur internet commection was jerry rigged with the top off the ped box, and a bare cable running along the top of fence lines to our house, and then they dug a 1/2 inch deep trench to our house from the fence to the garage terminal on the wall. It was forever going out. It took a full year of us screaming at them for them to come out and do the 1 hour real fix to hook us up. Problem was when it was first installed someone broke the cable that ran under the street to our house. They just didn't care to fix it when they were able to do it. so they figure who ever moved in here could just live with no internet. DUH in today's society going without internet? For work dialup just doesn't cut it.
