The Muslims in the region are mostly college students, and mostly Saudi. Cedar has a lot of foreign students attending SUU, I don't know about Dixie State. The biggest problem with the program over the years has been problems with excess partying. You may see an occasional woman in a full covering, but it's probably going to be bright colors or even stars and stripes worn with sneakers. Many of the female students don't even wear a head covering. It's mostly middle class/ upper middle class vetted, getting a business degree, with a few staying after college for regional jobs.

Locally, most bets seem to be that it's a stupid local kid prank regarding the flag.

The kid is underage so the identity has not been released. The local talk from people whose kids/ grandkids know him suggests that he is local. If he was an "outsider" that would probably have come up. If the identity is never released and/or charges are not filed, or if you never hear any more about it, he is probably connected to a well connected local family. He was in the JROTC and Success Academy, a program which means when he would have graduated from high school, he would also already have his Associates Degree. https://www.thespectrum.com/story/ne...emy/408722002/

So why was this kid NOT charged with terrorism? Yep, a name like Farnsworth has pull in Washington County, Ut. (one of the founding families). If charged with even threat of terrorism, could face 20 years....but instead charged with attempted murder, a lesser charge with max jail time of 10 years. Depends on judge, and with family connections, he may get less than a year for attempting to blow up Pineview High cafe with planted backpack containing bomb. Different laws for different people here!

"Good" boys from the right families can do just about anything here and get away with it. But there is some backlash this time because the parents of the kids who were endangered aren't buying the "he is a good boy, don't ruin his life you nasty judging lynch mob" line. "Juvenile brains are still forming, they don't know right from wrong" keeps getting used to paint him as the true victim, but that's not really flying either. "He was bullied and defending himself" is being tried, but he tried to bomb a school he didn't actually attend, not the school where he was supposedly bullied.

At least they are trying him as an adult. So there's that, at least.
