Hey all - I just discovered this forum after doing some research on different areas of St. Louis.

I was curious if anyone here works for an advertising or PR agency in St. Louis, and how you got your start (especially if you're around my age, mid 20's). I have my degree, I have some freelance writing experience, but no "agency" experience. Have been applying to whatever I can find for the past few years since graduation.

I check sites such as AdSaint all the time, though they generally tend to post mostly senior level positions. Are there any other resources I can utilize, other than trying to win the internship lottery?

I have a few friends in PR, but they all joined firms right out of school. Some caught a break at small firms, and have since moved on to better opportunities. Other than that, I have little insight.

Its a very competitive field especially in the Saint Louis Area. After the AB/InBev merger a lot of the smaller shops that catered to that industry closed shop. That left a lot of creatives out inthe cold.

Even as a writer I would solidify your web skills. Especially in SEO, Social Media and editing. Knowing HTML will really help.
