UPDATE: 18-Year-Old Arrested in Beating Death of Elderly*Immigrant « UPDATE: 18-Year-Old Arrested in Beating Death of Elderly Immigrant « CBS St. Louis (http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2011/04/20/update-18-year-old-arrested-in-beating-death-of-elderly-immigrant/ - broken link)

surprised no one here has commented on this horrible and senseless hate crime in an area of the south side we recently discussed in another thread.

Then again, if we ignore what is staring us in the face, we can maintain our disdain for the annual crime statistics and our skepticism of the census data which shows continued migration outward.

I suspect they were just bored teens with nothing to do since they are kept out of the malls and can't take the metrolink to go wilding at the Loop.

I read that the teen mistook him for another guy that had recently helped make an arrest. This entire story has made me sick. If we brought up every crime that happened on City Data we would be very busy.

I hadn't heard that. It makes me sick too. I agree about every crime but this one is particularly troubling to me.

This incident is extremely disturbing. It's horrible thinking about little punks like this ruining our city and taking the lives of great people who contribute to our community. These losers deserve to rot and I'd love to see their families face the media and face some sort of consequence of this. 18 year olds (or anyone for that matter) don't normally just go out and bludgeon people to death - there should be repercussions for this family of these idiots too.

Apparently its a game where they pick people out on random and deliver a beating.

Day by day I start to believe mandatory sterilization of low IQ people should be a great solution.

Terrible. I can not believe a 'person' can do something like that

Perhaps our legal system is too liberal. Offenders today are not afraid

Haredened criminals like the kind of person who would do this are not afraid of anything. Not pain, not death, and certainly not prison. Not sure what your suggestion would be for making the system less liberal.
