Hi everyone. was wondering what your thoughts on renting a place online without seeing it in person are? I am a young professional that will be moving to STL soon but I just don't have time to go visit and look at places in person. I've looked on craigslist and seen a few places that I like but not sure how safe this is. I was interested in some of the lofts on washington ave and was wondering if you could recommend a place that had a leasing office I could rent through that was reputable, and also in a good area for a new comer. Ive seen some of the other suggestions people have made but dont know how to differentiate without seeing them in person. I am looking for a 1 br for around 900-1000. Just not too comfortable renting through craigslist without seeing the place in person. thanks in advance.

Don't commit to anything beyond month to month if you have to rent sight unseen. Especially on craigslist, too many places are misrepresented. Get a month to month, and if you don't like it you will at least have a base to look for other locations.

I work for a property management company in New York, and I HATE advertising units on craigslist. I just associate it with scams or bait and switch ads.

I'd suggest using apartments.com and then reviewing the management companies the apartments you're interested in are associated with.

I'm also moving to St. Louis! Good luck!

Not sure where you want to live, but I recently rented a place in University City, and I personally looked at the following rental as well:

7024 Tulane Avenue, University City MO - Trulia

It's 2 bedroom, I know you only wanted one, but it is below your price range at $850 and is in a good neighborhood. The reason I didn't pick it is because it is slightly older. The rooms are a bit small, the screens on the windows are not attached and will fall right off if you touch them, and the bathroom is older and leaves something to be desired. The kitchen, living room, and dining room are very nice however. It would be doable for a year and if you don't like it, you could always move. Also, the landlord is a company (forgot the name) and they were super nice when I talked to them on the phone.

I know 2 people who live there and they like it BUT it is an area where you have to be aware of your surroundings.
