Hello friends,

I've recently accepted a job in downtown St. Louis, and am now looking for a house for my family. We've found one we like close to Meadowbrook Country Club in Chesterfield. I have had a commute in some form or fashion my entire adult life and don't mind one now, but since I'm not from the area I'm not really clear on how bad it gets at rush hour.

We've made the drive before on off hours and it took about 30 minutes, how much worse is it in rush hour?

i have a few friends who live in chesterfield and commute to midtown- normally it's about a 45 minute drive, can take an hour on some days. However- if there's any type of weather besides sunny- (rain, snow, snow showers, etc) this drive can take much longer. A couple times my friends have had a 2-3 hour drive on snow days. Just something to keep in mind- also i would recommend taking the drive when you'll be doing it and see how you like it. The 3:30-6pm drive back and forth there i would not want to do everyday, there's a lot of traffic for STL.

St. Louis rush hour is concentrated tightly around the narrow bands of 7:30-8:30 in the a.m., 4:45-6:00 in the p.m. If you can avoid those times, you'll still only be looking at 30 minutes. Inside those windows and I would expect it to be more like 40 or 45.

Traffic honestly isn't bad at all. I get annoyed when I'm slowed down to 20mph for about 15 min on the freeway and call that rush hour. This is nothing like rush hour even in smaller cities that I've lived in.
