Based on what little I can find online, it looks like there's only 1 gas and 1 electricity company for St. Louis? Leclede and Ameren - is that right?

As far as I know! They're the only ones that have served both areas I've lived in, in St. Louis. Both are great though, I've been especially happy with Laclede Gas customer service!

It actually depends exactly where you are looking. For example, Kirkwood provides its own electric service to parts of Kirkwood. When you start getting out towards the St. Charles area, Cuivre River may be the electric provider. Getting out towards Wentzville, Ameren may be the gas provider.

But if you are specifically asking about St. Louis city, yes Ameren Missouri for electric and Laclede for gas. Missouri has not deregulated like many states so you do not get to choose your provider.

Hunter is right on. I was about to make almost the exact same post. Ameren operates in both MO in IL. MO is the regulated side and IL is the deregulated side. So, if you were to live in the metro east, things are a bit different. See the following if you have any interest in IL: What Are Your Choices?
