I'm considering renting a house in Des Peres and would like some additional information than provided in the older thread I read here on CD. The house is on Lindemann just south of Manchester. I checked the crime statistics for Des Peres and it looks pretty average. I'm a single mom living with a small child and I'm looking for feedback regarding the safety of that particular area of Des Peres. The house is situated just 2 streets or so south of Manchester.

Any and all thoughts are welcome. Thank you all very much!

As far as suburban neighborhoods go, I doubt they get much safer. You are probably 100x more likely to get in a car accident turning on or off of Manchester Rd than you are to become a victim of violent crime in that area.

It's suburbia. If you're not from STL please don't be fooled by the crime stats of *parts* of the city of STL. Des Peres is purely suburban and safe. The only thing you need to worry about is the traffic on Manchester, especially on the weekends, is nuts. Better study a map and memorize alternate routes for getting in/out of your neighborhood.

I live very close, in Kirkwood, but not far from where you are looking - you do not have any crime worries here. Although I wouldn't recommend it, you can probably leave bikes and whatnot in the yard and not have to worry about it. My wife often leaves our house unlocked when we are out, which drives me crazy, but so far no problems.

Des Peres is very safe.

I know the neighborhood very well and live nearby. It is very safe. With a very young child, the ONLY thing I would be worried about living on Lindemann is making sure my kid didn't run out into the street, as Lindemann is pretty well-traveled.

(Also, for what it's worth, I read the "Area Crime Reports" in the Webster-Kirkwood Times most weeks, and from what I can gather most of the crime in Des Peres involves shoplifting, often at West County mall, or drunk driving on Manchester Road.)
