all those little flatland towns around PB are dying a slow, painful death, it seems to me that that area is the most economically depressed in the state.

Amen to that! And hasnt been ever since I was little. We lived in St Charles and would come down I70 to visit my grandmother in south STL, it was really scary even just looking at it from the highway!

That's as close as most white St. Louisians and suburbanites have ever been to it. (Myself included - except to go to Crown Candy)
