I plan on using the MetroLink to go to work in downtown. After work, I might go to a restaurant or bar on some days and not leave downtown until 11:00 at night. So my question is, is the MetroLink safe at night? Also what about particular stops, such as Grand, Union Station, or Civic Center etc.?

If you're comfortable walking around the city by yourself at night, I don't think MetroLink will generally pose any additional concerns.

TBH, the underground downtown stations (Convention Center and 8th/Pine) are okay, but Union Station, Civic Center, and Grand kind of give me the heebie jeebies at night. I've certainly used them before and have never had anything happen, but it wasn't the most comfortable feeling. Of course your mileage may vary, but I'd try it out once or twice sans alcohol to see how you really feel about it.

I would definitely say this varies by stop. For example, I wouldn't walk to the Grand station alone that late at night.

Also make sure you're not having such a good time that you miss that last train. Been there, done that.

You don't want to be hanging out by yourself intoxicated at Civic Center or Union Station after 9pm. Sober as long as you pay attention to your surroundings.

Just don't get off at Emerson Park by accident. I'd be comfortable wandering all the non-ESL stations at night, particularly those in the city.
