Pasadena Hills is a very gay-friendly neighborhood and is diverse 60/40 black white. mostly upper incomes. some great houses for sale in the neighborhood. 10-15 minutes to Clayton, Grove, Central West End and Downtown.

Lesbian couple here: Chesterfield/West County is for families. It's boring, safe, suburbia. My wife and I raised our two daughters in unincorporated West County because of the great schools. We moved to University City two weeks after the youngest graduated from high school because all of our friends and social activities were in the city.

There's no need for a young man/woman without kids to live in West County if you want a social life with folks of a similar age.

Coming from another gay individual, I would second what most people have said here. I don't think Chesterfield is NOT gay-friendly, but unless you're more settled and/or raising a family, I wouldn't live there. All of the gay nightlife and events are in the city, so you would find yourself driving back and forth a lot, as there isn't much to do in Chesterfield besides shopping and chain restaurants. Personally, I have lived in The Grove (also known as Forest Park Southeast) during most of my time here and would highly recommend it. The Central West End is also a very good option, depending on your budget. The Grove is where the vast majority of LGBT businesses and nightlife are, and most every place is very gay-friendly. The Central West End is also very gay-friendly, but more upscale and thus, a much higher price point. The Tower Grove area is also a great choice, but if you are commuting out west, either The Grove or the CWE would be a better choice from a commuting standpoint. Good luck!

I live in Chesterfield right now (if it matters, I'm straight but have a few gay friends). I don't think you'll see any outright hate, but there are a lot of conservative religious people in my part. (Ex. On my street, half of the house have women that don't walk outside without headscarves.) Having worked in some local restaurants, there are some definite beards. There are some families, but there are a LOT of older people who chose to have dogs instead of kids. I'm 40, and I am younger than most people here. Creve Couer actually touches Chesterfield, but is more gay friendly. Forest park is the East-most part of St. Louis County, Chesterfield is the West-most, along with Wildwood, they are over 15 miles apart.

BUT ...

The Grove and the Central West End are where it is at. The former actually has rainbow flags and crosswalks. Keep your head-up if decide on those spots, though. There are crime issues in relatively close neighborhoods. If you want to maximize your combination of gay-friendly and low crime, Clayton is probably for you. Both Clayton and the CWE can get expensive, so if money is an issue you'll have to shop.
