The STLPD didn't really patrol the local highways from what I can tell, and I drive them with some frequency. What they did have out is their truck unit, which nailed truckers for whatever violations they could. I assume that was profitable. It wasn't regular STLPD cop cars and suburbans, it was dark trucks. I can't recall the last time I've seen a SLPD car pull over a driver on a city highway.

Are you writing about MoDot? If so, that is the state and yes Dot is a money maker for most states.

I believe it's city police I've seen pulling over trucks along 44 and 55 and also along certain streets like Jefferson and Broadway.

They also target commercial vehicles. I saw them again the other day on south broadway, blue unis with badges, although not patrol unis. Nice blue trucks. Had a semi-pulled over. Maybe it was a black driver, I don't know.

Stl city police have a commercial truck enforcement unit that is always in I55. Been that way for years. Probably an easy way for them to make money.

Here in Florida the FL Dept of Transportation has their own law enforcement unit too that is in charge of the weight stations and commercial trucks.
