My husband and I will be moving to St. Louis in about a month from Alabama. My husband will be working at the various casinos in St. Louis and he doesn't mind commuting. We have no children, are in our mid-twenties, and are usually homebodies, but we want to be able to drive into the city without too much trouble. We are looking to rent a 2 bedroom townhouse for $600-$800 a month that also allows small dogs.

We have been looking at West County (around Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights), but are not married to that area. We have been scouring apartment rental sites and thought that Edgewater Court and Colony at St. Louis looked promising, but we don't really know anything about them other than what their floor plans look like. We would like input from this community on where ya'll think are decent places to live or what your thoughts are on the two complexes we're looking at. Thanks in advance, we have found this forum to be a great place to learn about St. Louis!

The Colony is in a nice, older neighborhood with great access to the new highway, but it is older. I haven't been inside one so i have no idea how well they've been kept up.

First off, welcome to the forum, and to the StL area... from a hillbilly that lived in NE 'bama for a bit, greetings!

As to the two places you've mentioned, don't know anything about them personally, but the following don't paint too good a picture about 'em:
Edgewater Court Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other Creve Coeur apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com
The Colony of St. Louis Apartment Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other St. Louis apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com

From the same site, this place has a 83% rating:
Waterford Downs Apartment Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other St. Louis apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com

If you go to the map part of the site, can click on some other green icons, those will have more positive ratings.

Don't have any other options at this time... hopefully someone w/ direct knowledge will post some suggestions for yas. Good luck!

Default Relocating Help

Try looking for apts on craigslist. You can search by price and location. Many ads have pictures. Here is the link.

craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums

Thanks for all the replies! My husband and I went to St. Louis ourselves this weekend, and we ended up getting a place in Valley Park. For any that may be interested, the Colony was a bit older and all the townhomes were currently unavailable for our move in date. The kitchens showed their age the most, but otherwise the insides were pretty standard. Edgewater 2 bedroom townhomes in our price range didn't have washer/dryer connections, which was a deal breaker for us. Again, thank you for all your help and we look forward to living in St. Louis!
