Just learned about this. Here I---and some of you---take antioxidants thinking it will help us in many ways, including warding off cancer---but it may have the opposite effect and actually revive dying cancer cells:
I've been taking supplements like NAC, but am stopping that.
I eat a diet very high in antioxidants, so technically I shouldn't need these supplements. But now I am a little scared that even an antioxidant-rich diet will have this effect---but I've read that a varied healthy diet won't----and the antioxidants won't be in as high levels as supplements.
That was interesting. I wish they would define things like "mega doses" though.

At a lecture in 1995 about Pycnogenol, we were told this OPC "MAY" prevent cancer(s). I got on "P" the next month, stayed with "P" for a year and then went to grape seed extract. You can find info on cancer research from city of hope, mayo, univ of maryland and others that are using these OPC's in their cancer research. I'm in my 21st year of taking these two OPC's....primarily grape seed extract these days. Can't say enough about my overall health... sadly I deal with advancing OA and a hip replacement "Mess"... But otherwise pretty darn good for 77. Never sick. Allergies are history.
My personal thoughts thou on cancer, it's a big business...so you can fill in the spaces.

What do y'all think?
They don't give you cancer, if you read the article it actually says in theory they ward off cancer and should reduce the probability of you getting it, but if you do, stop taking supplements because the anti-oxidants actually protect the cancer cells more than your regular cells.
Interesting study, nonetheless.
I just eat normal foods without supplementing, probably the best way to go.
Supplement companies are completely altruistic and cure diseases.
As long as you keep taking them!

Don't forget they are also anti-profit - which means of course all supplement manufacturers are registered as non-profit organizations and are run 100% by volunteers

And completely unregulated, which is a HUGE plus!!!

Some people who buy supplements to avoid Big Pharma drug companies may find themselves doing business with Big Herba, instead.
Some of the same companies that mass-produce drugs in huge chemical labs also churn out vitamin and herbal pills sold in bottles with rainbows, sunrises and flowers on their labels.
Dozens of other supplement makers reap more than $100 million in annual sales. One of the largest — NBTY Inc., on New York's Long Island — sold $2 billion last year in the United States alone. Its brands include Nature's Bounty, Vitamin World, Puritan's Pride and Sundown.
