If you are allergic to shellfish, is fish oil safe to take?
I have considered flax seed oil, but it doesn't have the same Omega-3's.
Do you know if your allergy is specific to mollusks, shellfish or not? Have you actually been tested? Allergies don't always stay static over your lifetime. They can come and go and subsequent reactions to an allergen can increase in severity with each exposure. No way would I mess around with anaphylaxis when the answer can be determined ahead of time!
Probably the only way to be positively sure would be to call the manufacturer of the fish oil in question and ask.
Still won't answer the question if the OP doesn't know exactly what sort of "fish" they are allergic to. Obviously krill oil would be a bad idea...krill species are classified as mollusks/shellfish.
My wife and I are wfpb vegans. We have taken Deva vegan Omega-3 DHA derived from algae, for over two years since my cardiologist recommended. Our yearly bloodwork has shown our DHA levels are very good. I do use 2T flax meal on my morning cereal daily as well. We purchase the Deva DHA from Amazon.

I forgot I posted this thread, sorry.
He is allergic to shrimp. He is not allergic to salmon.
Update: he has started taking a high grade Omega 3 sourced from pillack; he has not hand any adverse or allergic reaction so far (four days in).
Thanks everyone for your advice.
