A long vacant laboratory that developed pacemakers, missiles and television tubes for General Electric several decades ago will be transformed into a nanotechnology research and development center. The lab, which will be based at Electronics Park in Salina, will commercialize technologies being developed at the state's primary nanotech hub in Albany. The new facility is designed to accomodate startup firms and established nanotech companies that would locate in Greater Syracuse. Lockheed Martin, one of the largest defense contractors in the world, will be the anchor tenant of the $28 million, 50,000 square foot center that is being funded being by the state. Lockheed currently employs 2,400 people at its MS2 division at Electronics Park.

This has huge potential for CNY, along with the research facility going up in Marcy. It is interesting that the company Group4labs, Inc. from Fremont, California is in two industries that are key to CNY's transitioning economy, defense and environmental technology that will apply nanotechnology.

I am still waiting on the electic car plant and the wind mill plant proposed for the soon to closed NPG plant (which I think is a pipe dream).

This seems to have potential for job creation but frankly I don't know what "nanotech" is.
