Locally, I'm partial to Song Mountain. Not a huge place, but decent and uncrowded. And they offer occasional $7 lift tickets on Friday nights (next one is on the 27th, I think). Labrador is also quite popular.
For a longer trip, Windham (and Hunter and the other Catskill resorts) is only 3.5 hours away. Nice skiing down there (for those who don't turn up their noses at icier East Coast skiing).
I like Song and Labrador equally well, though Lab has a better terrain park if that's your thing. Both are fairly reasonable cost-wise. On weeknights, the school ski clubs will sometimes make the lift lines fairly long from 5-8 pm (roughly). We frequently show up around 7 pm, hang out for a bit while the lines die down, then ski until closing time. The slopes are practically empty during the later hours.
Greek Peak is about double the size of Song & Lab, but is also a bit more expensive. They also have some more challenging slopes in my opinion. I like going there once or twice per season just to mix things up.

You originally asked for information about ski areas near Syracuse. Many people have given you information about the areas nearby Syracuse.
If you would like to travel a little farther away from Syracuse, there are many ski resorts across New York State. If you click on the Link Line below, you can read about additional ski areas you may want to visit in the future.
Enjoy your skiing trips and maybe you will get the opportunity to go snowmobiling sometime.
