To avoid further swerve in another thread, why is it that Cicero is viewed by typical Syracusans as closer in than Tully, or Baldwinsville than Homer?

I always hear Cicero is viewed as a swamp, but nothing in relation to distance.

I think the long stretch thru the Onondaga Nation makes it feel longer
