Anybody have any actual experience selling costume jewelry. I have a bunch of pieces left to me by family members. I would like to sell it all together in one lot. Problem is I absolutely NO IDEA of the value of costume jewelry. There are lots of places around Syracuse that buy jewelry, but I don't want to get ripped off.
So if anyone knows where I can get a fair deal......
Costume jewelry has little to no value. Sorry, but that is just the way it is.
Estate Jewelry....let's say with a value of $5-10,000 per piece has SOME value if the piece is uniqe. Otherwsie, it is worth what it is in terms of the metal value (to be melted down). Diamonds have some value if they are not scratched, chipped, broken, etc.
For a FAIR evaluation, see John at Hayden Jewelers (Liverpool--call first to make sure HE is there...no-one else), or see Mark Caiello at Central New York Coin and Silver. They will give you an honest opinion of the value. Mark will direct you to a further source if the estate piece is something really neat....I forget the guys name now, but he also is very honest.
Stay away from the 'we buy gold' places unless you really know what you are doing. I have used both of the people i suggested and feel very comfortabke working with them. There is no pressure, no hustle; just a patient and fair evaluation of what you have and what it is worth.
