My husband will be working in Syracuse City. We would like to buy on or near a lake in suburbs within 30 minutes. Is another county like Jefferson or Oneida too far? Help

I'd suggest Cicero. It's a suburb of Syracuse on Oneida Lake which is a good sized lake and is less than a 30 minute commute.

People do drive from Jefferson Co and Oneida but it's a haul, and in bad weather worse. If you do find you want to drive a bit further there are the Finger Lakes at Skaneateles, and Auburn, Oswego County on Lake Ontario, and a small lake in Jordan.

THERE IS A STATE PARK IN FAYETTEVILLE NEW YORK CALLED GREEN LAKES. THE BEACH IS VERY NICE AND FAYETTEVILLE IS A UPSCALE SUBURB. IT IS ABOUT 30 MINUTES FROM THE CITY OFF OF ROUTE # 5

Default 30 minutes outside Syracuse

Consider Cazenovia area...it's quaint & on a lake. Its also 15-20 minutes away from a wonderful YMCA and has a terrific school district. Quite a few restaurants too!

Good luck.

Default Consider other small lakes

hello-
there are other small, fairly unknown lakes in the area. DeRuyter Lake is one example, and the prices of houses are far below those around Lake Cazenovia. The people there are more down to eart as well.

Further to the east, past Cazenovia on Rt. 20, are multiple small lakes with some lovely houses. You do sacrifice a bit--the drive time will be more like 45 minutes into the city of Syracuse.

There's also a lake near "Prebble NY" which is just off the 81 interstate, and about a 20 minute drive from the heart of downtown 'Cuse.

Good luck!
