SubCat Music Studios of Skaneateles will relocate to an underutilized building adjacent to the Red House Arts Center on South West Street. The $3.1 million project on the periphery of Armory Square will substantially renovate a century old, three story building into a cafe, a residence for traveling artists, and a state-of-the art recording studio.

The location of the proposed project serves as a crucial linkage between the vibrant Armory Square district and the fledgling Near West Side. The fact that a successful recording studio with an established location is willing to take the plunge and relocate to a transitional city neighborhood is a sign of confidence in Syracuse's viability as an arts and cultural destination. This is excellent news.

Wonderful news! Delavan Art Gallery being across the way too, FIRMLY in the west side, is probably helping a lot too.

Interesting! I didn't know about them. Surprised to see how much business they have. Pretty expensive equipment.

Sorry RR, I must have been daydreaming, I did not see your post regarding the recording studio until after I posted my new thread. I would have posted my information under your thread. I am very excited by the recent news coming out of Armory Square. I especially like projects that collaborate with other projects like this studio project and the Red House. I see that the Edge re-openning after making way Urban Outfitters. Thanks again.

Here is another article from the CNY Business Journal:
Former Gateway Building to get new life as an artistic hub | CNY Business Journal (1996+) | Find Articles at BNET

The website of the New York City-based architect shows a rendering. Click project "Subcat 219." Slide 2 shows the building when viewed at South West Street. The landscaping and signage look good.

I didn't know they did the "VPA Student Center" at the Warehouse. Cool, as I work there and didn't know who came up with the look.
