I am looking at colleges with my daughter and one choice is Lemoyne college in Syracuse. I am not familiar with the area at all. We live on Long Island. I am concerned with crime and 'bad' neighborhoods etc...We are planning a visit in the summer but would like a little information before we go. Any information on Lemoyne college and St Josephs Hospital (school of nursing) would be great also.

Thanks
EJ

LeMoyne is a small religious-affiliated school on the eastern edge of the city. It's in a good neighborhood, and the nearest "seedy" locales are a few miles to the northwest and southwest. There should be relatively little concern over crime in the LeMoyne area.

My mother went to St. Joe's when she first came stateside in the '80s. She's still a nurse today, so I'm assuming it's a decent nursing school.

The colleges are good, just can't help you much with the neighborhoods. I've only been to the Lemoyne college section of the city once. Crime shouldn't be a major issue for Lemoyne. The neighborhoods near Syracuse University probably have more crime than the Lemoyne area.

The campus is pretty safe. I would not recommend night walks through the neighboring Springfield Gardens Apartments though (Section 8 housing).

I am from LI as well. I went to Le Moyne College (note Le Moyne is two words. It just kills me to see it misspelled ). The campus and area around it are very safe. Most of the problems your will run into are you normal collage issues. I lived on campus for 3 years with no problem. I lived off campus in a nearby apartment complex, Swiss Village, for my last year. I never ran into major problems. Never felt unsafe walking back to my dorm at all hours of the night. I may have felt cold, but never unsafe. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
