Calling all Amazon Kindle FIRE owners.......is this device worth the money ?

What gripes , or missing features, do you have with it if you own one?

Would you buy another Kindle FIRE or recommend it to others??

How good is Amazon phone tech support if you have a problem?

Would it take a killer deal to get you to buy one?

It does what *My Wive* wants it to do.

Depends on what *you* like it to do.

Never had any *problems* with it.

Would it take a killer deal to get you to buy one?

We waited for while to see if the price went down.
Then when we finally bought it, they have a *newer one* for sale ...
Shortly after you buy it !!!
So how long do you want to wait for one ?
We found one at Sam's Club for a few dollars less and took that deal.
When you finally decide to get one, also invest in those pointer thingys,
that you use, instead of your finger tip.
Also a case that has the capability to rotate the unit *in the case*,
so that it can *stand up* on your stomach .... (DEFT brand)
If you hold it in your hand for a long time, you WILL get the cramps !
It is not that *light* !

Then subscribe to the free book forums.
We have had ours now for quite while and maybe spend 20 dollars on books ....
15 for the *scriptures*, and the rest for books she really wanted to have *right now* ...

BTW, pretty good games also for *free* !!!

Last but not least, invest in one of those *stick-on* covers, on the back and front of the unit.
Not much money to keep it clean and good for a long time.
Have it done *professionally*.
If it comes off, you can b**** at the ones who did it !

When not downloading, turn the WIFI OFF !
Looses power fast, if you keep it on !

I *buy* books and games, via my laptop.
(send to Kindle via USB)
Then Wive can read on her Kindle and I can read on my laptop.
Kindle has a free programme to do that !

Our 4 year old grandson has his own !

We just bought one for a friend who is sick and having surgery to use at recovery time. The HD 7 inch model. She has zero comuter experience. When we opened the box there was zero instructions ;not even a get started sheet like in most computers. Not that impressed since we are use to buying computer which certain is much easier for a non- tech person Had to buy a seperate charger and it did not come with anyhting but poorly written warnings. If your use to the help getting start you get with typical computer this will be a disappointment in that regard.Once she figured out how to turn it on ;then how to unlock;she coud at elast look around. Not even instruction o how to charge and how long before use. Poor instrcvutions indeed ;really none that matter to new users.

That's correct, texdav. When I got my Kindle, I was amazed and annoyed to find the instructions are on the damned thing. Makes it kinda hard to figure out if you don't know where to go and what to do when you get there.

Highly annoying.

Thankfully, Amazon tech support via phone is free and very good.

I got it mostly for watching Amazon Prime video/Netflix, and occasional surfing. I got it right before their price drop in April(?)... they had a Valentines sale so I got it for $30 off.. which basically paid for a case. Of course, the price dropped ~$80 shortly after.

The screen looks great and it works fine for what it is. My biggest gripe is the limitation Amazon puts on it in terms of having their own ecosystem with android apps etc. This wasn't a surprise to me as I researched it a bit... however, as new apps come out all the time, I get growingly frustrated that I'm not able to load this or that on the Fire. There are certainly ways around that (grabbing the actual install file and installing it manually), but then you're also stuck keeping up with updates etc.

Personally, if I can do it all over again, I would just pay the extra money to get a full featured Android tablet and just load the necessary Amazon apps I need. But I also don't have a heavy requirement for the kindle library.
