My ipad air has problems with the charging port. I have tried all the troubleshooting found on various youtube clips. The cable is fine, there’s no lint or dirt in the port. I have to jiggle and hold the cable in a press forward hand lock to get the charge to work.
Soooo.....I want to take the ipad in to get a new charging port. A fixit place quoted me $75. All Ok. However I do my banking (8 different financial institutions) online and I have copies of my tax returns in ibooks. All my passwords are autofil.
If I go into the settings and turn autofill off, I’m sure the repair guy can just go turn back on.
How do I protect my data without removing all the passwords from my directory?

A few things.
The repair place should not even need your pin code for this repair.
Go to a reputable repair shop, and no one is going to try going into your apps or stealing your tax return, I promise. No body wants to risk that especially in these uncertain times. Any shop, or even chain, caught doing this would be out of business the next day. Not to even mention any repair shop is hiring guys that understand... what if YOU have something on there that records everything they do? Super easy... and they know it. Worth the risk just to see... your tax return? NO.
and finally Autofil: if you turn that off, and reboot just for good measure, and turn it on again... it needs to relearn all your passwords. When you turn it off it will purge the list. It doesn't store that info in case you change your mind.
Go get your tab fixed. With peace of mind.

Thanks. Decided to buy a new ipad air 3. But still having the old one repaired and wiping it clean and donating to the local distance learning program.

Great!
There is always something amazing when you buy a new electronic item and open the box
Nice of you to donate the old one.

That was really nice of you.
Good job.
I have a bunch of apple products and sometimes the charging ports do not want to work.
I scape the inside of the port with a tooth pick over a paper towel.
The towel lets me see how much gunk comes out.
A few times I had to use a metal dental pick for stubborn items.
Not sure if that was your problem but I thought I’d toss it out.
Once again good job on your donation.
Andy.
